Who am I?

Updated: May 27

Have you ever asked yourself that? I mean, really looked into the mirror and wondered, who is this person staring back at me?

If you think you are that face staring back at you in the mirror then I’ve got news for you, you’re not.

Most people when asked “who are you?” will instantly give their name, it’s what we’ve been conditioned to do and it’s become natural. But guess what? ...your name is nothing more than a label that you wear for a lifetime. It’s not who you are.

Some people will say, “I’m a doctor,” or “I’m a lawyer,” or “I’m an artist,” and they’ve taken on THAT as their identity. If it’s what you love to do, then that’s a beautiful thing. But it’s not who you are, it’s what you do.

What about the thoughts in your head. Do you think you are your thoughts? Have you ever really observed them? Try writing all your thoughts down for a day so you can see what’s in there...then burn it.

You’re not your thoughts either. What a relief right? If you were your thoughts, you wouldn’t know you had then because there would be no one to observe them.

Do you observe your face in the mirror? Can you observe your thoughts? Who is that observer?

That observer is YOU.

The ageless one. The nameless one...because how could you name the I AM? Can the observer ever really be confined to a label?

But we sure do try, don’t we?

We say I am this, or I am that, or I’m not this, or I’m not that.

What you truly are as the observer is LIMITLESS. And yet we limit ourselves all time...I can’t do that, I could never have that, etc.

Or how about this one “well that’s just my personality, that’s just how I am.” Really? Why? You want to give up that easily?

Your “personality” is made up largely from the programming and socialization you received as a child.

Is your programming still dictating who you think you are?

Perhaps it’s time to throw all of that off and start with the basics.

You are consciousness. You are limitless, you are the nameless and the ageless one.

Now, what do you want to do with that?
